WATARU KOMACHI
Born Tokyo Japan / Live in TokyoWataru Komachi, born and based in Tokyo,
is an artist known for his collaborations with various entities.
He has worked with fashion brand Christophe Lemaire, participated in the “exposition collections particulieres exhibition” at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche alongside Karl Lagerfeld, designed T-shirts for musician Beck’s European tour, created stage costumes and tour T-shirt designs for the rock band ONE OK ROCK, and provided album cover artwork for the band SCANDAL. His collage works have caught the attention of American actor and film director Dennis Hopper, who has included them in his contemporary art collection.
Wataru Komachi uses collage, painting, photography, and other techniques to transform seemingly valueless discarded items into art that evokes both laughter and contemplation. Although the artist stated that he was creating in a playful way, and quoted Bruce Lee’s famous line “Don’t think” (the second half of the sentence is, “feel”). Isn’t our feeling often followed by thinking? At least that’s how I often do.
